Happy Sunday

Happy Sunday to you. I had kinda a lazy Sunday, didn't get to go to church today, because Daddy was covering up his cover crop. He got it done though. I did a little housework, and took a nice nap. This evening Mama and I made pizza dip. It turned out really good. We brought it over when we went to some friend's house this evening. We watched "Ella Enchanted". Mama and I finished it when we got home. I have seen it a couple of times before, but this was Mama's first time. Lord willing, I will be going to Louisiana after all to stay with my grandparents for about a month. I thought I might end up going to South America because of the hurricane, but the price of plane tickets went way up, putting that out of the question. So, God made that decision I think. I wasn't really sure what to do. "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord." I believe that. I pray that God would make me a good man (woman in my case). I really want to make God happy in all I do.

County Fair

I had a very fun evening. I went to a county fair, not too far from where I live, albeit not my county. I think everybody from this area was there! Very exciting place! I rode on a ferris wheel for the first time in my life. It was so much fun! Not really scary at all, and the view was amazing, looking down on the whole fair. It would have been even funner if my sister would have been there though, because my fellow seat mates or little cubicle mates on the ferris wheel were two love birds, and it was a little awkward, oh well. We went to the heifer auction too, and I learned a joke. Here goes: "What do you call a heifer after she calves? Decaffeinatted." I know, its kinda corny. My mom and I went in the petting zoo. There was goats, piglets, a donkey, deer, even a camel, etc." All of the animals were spoiled rotten Lol. I feasted on a root beer float, frozen lemonade, and a mexican gordita. The guy at the mexican food booth thought I was from Spain, maybe Madrid, I think it was maybe because of my hat, and the fact that I was talking half Spanish, half English to him, kinda funny. Well, now I have been to a town fair, and a county fair. I just need to go to a state fair, and the World Fair!

On Smoothies, Peppers, and Lettuce

I guess I should tell you that we live on a vegetable farm. Every year I butcher canteloupes and put them in the freezer. I then enjoy wonderful canteloupe smoothies throughout the year. I did this again this year, and today I enjoyed my first refreshing smoothie from this year's crop. It is my humble opinion that a canteloupe smoothie is very hard to beat in the smoothie-world.

The summer crop season is now over for us, but today I planted 8 flats of lettuce, fennel, onions, and endive for the fall crop. Ah, life goes on!

This year I didn't do much canning, due mostly to a very busy schedule, but in the last few weeks I did get a chance to pickle peppers for my dad. He loves them. Pepper pickling is hot work with hot vinegar stinging my eyes. They sure are pretty when they are done though.

Candy and a Jewish Movie

Yesterday evening I really wanted candy, so I went bought like 3 kinds at the little store here in town. You know, Jolly Ranchers are absolutely delightful! I have seen Jolly Rancher slushy machines in a gas station, and I would love to try some of that sometimes. Our wonderful Christian neighbors lended us a Jewish movie called "Ushbizim". It is in Hebrew with English subtititles. We finished watching it tonight and it was really worth watching, so realistic and funny. The Hebrew rock at the end of the movie was unexpected, and just added a cool touch. It was just a good movie about tests and miracles. I listened to one of Josh Groban's songs today, "You're Still You." That song is so beautiful and it moved me greatly. His music brings back beautiful memories of wonderful times.

Hurricane

This coming Hurricane Gustave might wreak havoc upon my plans for the coming month. It is hard to tell as of right now where it is headed. Not good. So, dad says I can go to South America with them, but I really want to spend time with my grandparents. I also need to finish learning to drive, which is very important, because I need to get my license before I go to Tennessee. So, I guess I will just wait and see a day or two more and try to see where this thing goes. When I talked to my "Maw Maw" today I was like, "Well, it looks like we might be eating MREs and fishing off the front porch." She cracked up.

Blogging

So, I have decided to have a blog, this should be fun if I keep up with it. My life is an adventure, so who knows what will happen tomorrow. I talked to Mr. Saul from Mexico today. I haven't talked to him in a few years, so that was really amazing. We used to sell cheese outside of his business in downtown Teziutlan in Mexico. He was such a big blessing to our family. I realized today, (well, maybe yesterday too) that my cat "Ugly" might not be coming home. I haven't seen her for a few days. She was just looking pretty too! I went to a lot of trouble to nurse that kitten back to health . Oh well, I have others, which I need to go feed. Night.
